Transmitter

Larger than 50m working radius

The transmitter is the basic building block of an iGPS system. It is the origin of the iGPS signals. A network of transmitters establishes the measurement volume by emitting two infrared laser fans beams and an infrared strobe. The laser fans are emitted from the transmitter’s head that rotates at a unique frequency for each transmitter. Sensors in the measurement volume detect the light signals which the software processes to determine relative azimuth and elevation angles to the sensor.

i5IS

Wired or wireless, three power options

The i5is is an omni-directional 5DOF integrated sensor for use in an iGPS system. It contains two precision sensors which convert optical transmitter signals into digital information to be processed by the iGPS software Surveyor. Its uses include: 3D point and 5DOF vector measurement; automatic system setup and health monitoring as a Monument or Base Station; and 6DOF object tracking when combined with an additional sensor. The i5is advanced signal processing and communication electronics are all packaged together in a compact and robust design for quick and easy deployment.

I6 Probe G6

Wired or wireless, three power options

The i6 Probe (a.k.a. iProbe) is a fully integrated 6 DOF measurement tool that has multiple tip interfaces, five convenient buttons that can be user assigned, and visual and audible feedback. The i6 Probe provides flexible and accurate large volume inspection. The i6 Probe can also be configured as a 6DOF localizer for third party instruments.

I6 LRP G6

Wired or wireless, three power options

The i6 Long Reach Probe (i6LRP) is a wireless long reach measurement device that provides 6DOF measurements within an iSpace or iGPS system. Equipped with two probe extensions and a variety of interchangeable probe tips, the i6LRP enables accurate large volume inspection in the most flexible way. The i6LRP can also be configured as a 6DOF localizer for third party instruments and its sensor spacing makes it effective for bundling an iSpace system. The ergonomic design and wireless operation make the i6LRP suitable for long periods of use.

2m Scalebar G6

Wired or wireless, three power options

The Integrated Scalebar is the standard bundle tool for any iSpace system. It acts as a precision reference length artifact for automated bundling of iGPS transmitters. It is available in both 1m and 2m lengths.

iGPS Accessories

Wired or wireless, three power options

The Digital Input Module (DIM) allows up to 4 independent external events to be synchronized with iGPS measurements. The external electrical event is linked to one of four DIM channels and each event occurrence is digitized and time stamped in Surveyors time base. Each DIM channel has an LED which indicates when an event is received.

Technology

What is the environment requirements for using iGPS?

Based on the general principles of laser-based metrology systems like iGPS (Indoor Global Positioning System), here are some typical environmental considerations:

Typical Environmental Requirements for iGPS:

Temperature Stability:

Sudden temperature changes can affect measurement accuracy due to thermal expansion of structures and air refractive index changes.
A stable temperature environment is ideal, often within ±1–2°C.

Humidity Control:

High humidity can affect laser transmission and cause condensation on optics.
Recommended relative humidity is typically between 30%–70%, non-condensing.

Air Quality:

Dust, smoke, or airborne particles can scatter laser beams and reduce accuracy.
Clean environments or filtered air systems are preferred.

Vibration and Movement:

Vibrations from nearby machinery or foot traffic can interfere with measurements.
Systems are best used in low-vibration environments or with vibration isolation.

Lighting Conditions:

While iGPS uses active laser emitters and sensors, excessive ambient light (especially direct sunlight) can interfere with optical components.
Controlled indoor lighting is ideal.

Line of Sight:

The system requires clear line-of-sight between transmitters and sensors.
Obstructions or reflective surfaces can cause signal loss or measurement errors.

Technology

How fast can iGPS track an object?

iGPS’s max tracking speed depends on the transmitter layout, especially how far away from detectors to transmitters. From a single transmitter point of view, it is measuring angular velocity. iGPS has been tested by tracking cars moving at 90Km/h outdoors.

Several factors to consider the dynamic tracking capability:

  • Typical Update Rate: iGPS systems often operate at 40 Hz or higher, meaning they can update position data 40 times per second.
  • Latency: Usually in the range of 10–100 milliseconds, allowing for near real-time tracking.
  • Motion Tracking: Capable of tracking objects moving at several meters per second with high accuracy, depending on the number of sensors and environmental conditions.

These capabilities make iGPS suitable for:

  • Real-time robotic guidance
  • Dynamic tool tracking
  • Monitoring large structures in motion (e.g., aircraft components during assembly)

General

Can the transmitters be powered by batteries?

Yes, we offert battery pack solution

Technology

Can I run Surveyor on Linux PC?

Surveyor is built using Dot Net technology, so the Surveyor has to run on a Windows PC, but we do have a solution to create a very thin and simple data provider software to relay the data from Windows PC to a Linux PC.

Technology

Can a working area be enlarged later on?

Yes, by adding more transmitters

Products

Can a working area be divided and still be covered by iGPS?

Yes, as long as the number of transmitters are enough to cover the total area, working cells can be defined and dedicates to different applications/tasks that would be all monitored by iGPS

Can more that one measuring device be used in a system?

Yes, multiple measuring probes or tracking sensors can be used at one time.
